Margaret Timbrell
Conceptual Needlework
Session 3
I am passionate about contemporary culture, the oddities of language, and needlework. In the early 2000s I graduated from NYU with a career in photography. However, during recovery from being run over by a truck, I shifted my art practice to needlework; a craft that accommodated my temporary disability. Since then my art has developed to be an exploration of technical needlework skills incorporating elements of contemporary culture. My work looks like classic needlework with a twist. For the Sweet Dreams Society I plan to create a very large tapestry using a variety of rug tufting techniques to depict the cherry head parrots of San Francisco in flight on a yellow background.
